Christmas has become tired for me for some time now. It's an endless parade of gifts for everyone under the sun...senseless, impersonal and empty (for the most part). It should be just a kids holiday, filled with cheer and wonder, joy and family. In fact, that's what I'm going to make it. I'm only doing Christmas for the kids this year. This is their holiday. Their time to relish in the season, the stories and the gifts.
I don't want anything and to be truthful, I mainly don't want the burden of having to get gifts for others. I don't want others carrying that burden around either. That's not a fun, loving, family holiday...that's tension. and who wants more of that? Not this guy.
Building on that, I think we should flip this year's holiday season the other way. We should not focus on the selfish receipt of gifts and charity from others, but on giving and helping...loving on others. Many do this already, but not me. I suppose I'm just late to the game...a late bloomer in this and many areas of my life.
